Principal Product Manager, AOL Desktop Clients
(October 2008-March 2009)

Responsible for AOL Windows Desktop Client product vision, planning and execution.

  • Worked closely with development team, access group, marketing and member services to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals were met or exceeded
  • Delivered rapidly conceived and developed AOL 9.5 release, which required melding two disparate codebase technologies into a user familiar client to the user-base. This hybrid release, completed in under 5 months, introduced tabbed browsing to Classic AOL 9.x client.
  • Worked closely with AOL Beta support to translate feedback and concerns from AOL loyal beta tester user base in continued improvement of AOL 9.5 and AOL 9.next.

Senior Technical Manager, Community Applications Development
(December 2007- October 2008)

Lead team responsible for development, testing and deployment of Community product initiatives for AOL’s
Community family of web properties.

  • Staffed and lead team that developed and launched:
    • peopleconnection.aol.com redesign (moving web property from proprietary AOL Big Bowl onto open source-based linux, apache, tomcat, mysql, Atomics, java, jsp spec, java bean specification publishing/back end system – collectively known as DynaPub within Aol.
    • circavie.com (written and deployed using Ruby-on-Rails) developed in Dulles using agile/scrum methodology
    • pixnay.bebo.com (written and deployed using Ruby-on-Rails) developed in Dulles using agile/scrum methodology
  • Staffed and lead team that began redesign of groups.aol.com.
    • Utilized and lead a truly global development team with 90% of development and 100% of QA being located at AOL Bangalore, India
    • Management responsibilities for both Technology development and Project teams included multiple direct reports and matrixed global virtual teams (East Coast, West Coast, Ireland, and India).

Technical Manager, AIM Dashboard and Community in a Box (CiaB) Development
(January 2007-December 2007)

Lead team responsible for development, testing and deployment of CiaB product initiatives for AOL’s
Community family of web properties.

Management responsibilities for both Technology development and Project teams included multiple directreports, and a matrix global virtual teams (East Coast, West Coast, Ireland, and India).

  • Launched ficlets.com (written and deployed using Ruby-on-Rails) developed in Dulles using agile/scrum
    methodology
  • Joined forces with AOL development team in Bangalore India to launch first phase of redesign of AIM’s
    landing page dashboard.aim.com.

    • Introduced Agile/Scrum techniques to this global team
    • Traveled to Bangalore with Rally Software training team to sponsor two weeks of Scrum training
  • Introduced brown-bag, executive open-forum and developer forum video taping for global team outreach
    using streaming video playback

Technical Manager of Infrastructure Development team responsible for proprietary core AOL tools used (SAPI,
SOML, Bucky, et al) that were underpinnings of AOL at the time.

  • Guided development team through transformation from proprietary company to open source and open thinking with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
    • Staffed and lead development team built and deployed C and Java Frameworks for SOA java Framework for SOA
    • Staffed and lead development team that built and deployed Identity Mapping and Namespace Management Services for the SOA Initiative
  • Developed prototype of Platform Integration Team
    • Mandate was to help guide external teams through our SOA vision
    • Negotiated various contracts with OSS Nokalva for use of their ASN.1/C Tools and Fast Web Services tools for C/C++ in our Frameworks

(August 2001-March 2004)

Technical Manager of AOL Strategic Business Solutions and AOL Enterprise Software Development

  • Rebuilt LDAP development, QA and Build teams, all AOL Enterprise labs and LDAP product
  • Led multi-million dollar deal between AOL/Netscape and HP to deliver LDAP Directory Server in all HP OS flavors.
  • Successfully delivered critical point and full releases of Directory Server to industry
  • Supported development of AOL Communicator, a stand alone email client for Windows and Macintosh clients

Lead development team that provided key point (bug fix) releases of Directory Server to Sun and iPlanet
customers based on user and QA feedback. Team provided 24/7 back-line support as needed, In support of
deployed products.

Technical Support Manager, Major Accounts Support
(March 1997-June 1999)

Technical Manager responsible for managing a widely diverse group of technical support experts providing 24/7
front-line, specialized support. These experts kept the many companies that used Netscape Enterprise SuiteSpot
(Netscape’s Web, mail, groupware, and directory-server offerings) up and running for major corporations.

  • Worked on Macintosh Dial-Up Kit (DUK) tool for Netscape Browser customization during the dial-up days of the internet
    • DUK allowed dial-up ISPs to customize Netscape Communicator installer to lock in their unique
      settings to ease users adoption during install on Macintoshes and PCs
  • Provided support to Major Accounts within Netscape’s Technical Support organization.
    • Assigned to support Motorola remotely and onsite in Arizona as needed. (Major Accounts
